For Nannie
Thursday, October 04, 2007For those of you who don't know, my grandmother (aka Nannie) was the reason I started art. As a child, I spent a week of the summer with her and my grandfather in Burlington, North Carolina. One summer in middle school, Nannie (an artist herself, whether or not she admits it) showed me how to paint with watercolors. I fell in love with art, and the rest is history.
Nannie will always have a special place in my heart for many reasons, art being one of them. I breifly mentioned in a previous blog that she asked me to do two paintings in an Impressionistic style. Well, that's not exactly my thing or where I'm going in the moment, but she's pretty much the only one I'd do this for. And I'm glad that I did do it. (Well, that I am doing it.) Painting in this style is helping me remember tonalities, brush up on representationalism, and just push me out of my comfort zone in general - a great thing to do as an artist.
So here's my second piece that I've been working on from the set. It's a view outside the window of my studio, and it's starting to look pretty cool.
