Drawing

A little while ago my professor recommended that I try drawing to help improve my painting. Since I've started, I think I'm becoming a better drawer, but I'm not sure if it's having an affect on my painting yet.

In any case, it has gotten me to think a lot about drawing in general. It's an under-represented form of art, often dismissed as preliminary work for a painting. I've seen some exhibits that showcase drawing as a finished medium, but way too few compared to the shows for sculpture, video, painting and other media. I feel that since I've had limited exposure to drawings as finished works, my skill and understanding of it is lacking.

This winter, I plan to look at more abstract, finished drawings for my own inspiration and education. It's such a fabulous art form that shouldn't be ignored!
